About Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi is a seaside town in Montenegro, at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor and at the foot of Mount Orjen. It is the administrative center of the village of Herceg Novi with a population of about 33,000. Herceg was known as Novi Castelnuovo ("new castle" in Italian) between 1482 and 1797, when it was part of the Ottoman Empire. Herceg Novi has a turbulent past, despite being one of the youngest settlements on the Adriatic. The history of diverse occupations has created a mixture of diverse and picturesque architectural styles in the city.

The Bay of Kotor has a humid subtropical climate with significantly more rain in winter than in summer. Herceg Novi’s distinctive microclimate is the result of southern exposure, proximity to the sea, a limestone bedrock and a mountainous hinterland that prevents the breakdown of cold air masses.

Herceg Novi has about 200 sunny days a year. There are about 11 hours of sunshine a day in July and August.

About the country of Montenegro

Place

Montenegro is a small but very mountainous country on the Adriatic coast, between Croatia and Albania, and opposite Puglia, the corner of Italy. Montenegro is very easy to reach as it is less than a 3 hour flight from most of Europe and Russia. There are two main airports; Tivat and Podgorica, but many travelers also use Dubrovnik Airport in Croatia, which is only 14 km from the Montenegrin border. Natural beauty

You may think we are biased, but we think Montenegro is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. However, we are not the only ones. Back in the 19th century, Lord Byron wrote: “At the birth of our planet, the most beautiful meeting of land and sea took place off the coast of Montenegro. When the pearls of nature were discarded, a handful of pearls were sprinkled on this soil. ” Montenegro still retains its natural charm and beauty. Architecture dating back to the 12th century is still prevalent among many towns and villages that are part of the UNESCO heritage. The natural beauty of Montenegro is dramatic; mountains fall into the reflected water in the UNESCO-protected Bay of Kotor, and the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic, which cover the sandy beaches of the coast. Although the Bay of Kotor is commonly referred to as a fjord, it was not formed as a result of the glacier movement, but it is actually a ria (a canyon of a river drowned in water), but by common accord it is spectacular. Drive into the mountains and find immersed rivers (Tara Canyon is the second deepest in the world), icy lakes, unspoilt nature, and an emerging ski and ecotourism industry. The climate on the coast is Mediterranean, rising to 40 degrees in August, but it is cooler inland, where the climate is continental.
