Technical sliding (also known as tech sliding or tech-slide) is a typical skating style in longboarding where skateboarders try to make fast-paced and creative slides. In my opinion, this longboarding style is like a combination of street skating and free riding.

The complexity of the trick depends on the skating terrain, the durometer of the wheels, the steepness of the hill, etc. Therefore, while watching the performance of those skateboarders, you may be fascinated by the fast-responding tricks they perform.

Unfortunately, learning tech slide is not easy according to the post shared by SkateAdvisors that gave beginners a guide to tech sliding. If one of the tricks such as one-footed slides, 360s, blunt slides, roller coasters, or draw-out laybacks impresses you, I think you have come to the right place.

In today’s post, let’s learn the right way to perform technical sliding.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO PREPARE?

Of course, a good beginner skateboard is a must if you want to take up any skating style. To save your time and effort to complete the first task of finding the suitable board, I think you should ask for help from a pro skater or at least trust the consultation of the seller.

Besides a good skateboard, safety apparatuses such as a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, etc should also be equipped. SkateAdvisors on bitbucket.org has a special article that analyzes in detail the potential injuries of skating without safety gear as well as how to choose the right set of protective equipment. Therefore, I strongly recommend beginners to check this website for more info.

THE TECHNIQUES BEHIND TECHNICAL SLIDING

The very first challenge that skaters need to face is to get familiar with hard wheels which can not grip the ground as well as soft wheels. However, hard wheels are so popular since they let riders perform fast-responding tricks.

As a beginner, I suggest you should begin by getting to know your wheels so that you can get control of all of them with ease. Why? Because it would be extremely dangerous if you can not react to an abrupt situation or don’t know how to steer a board while bombing a hill.

The very next challenge is to get over 90-degree slides since a lot of people get into problems when dealing with flat spots. Holding your shoulder toward the downside of the hill and carving into the moving direction are the two most popular methods to control the sliding angle.

In case you can not imagine this step, I think you can check out the guide from SkateAdviosrs on survivalistboards.com to see the vivid videos and explanations so that you can understand better. My very first advice for all skaters who want to succeed in longboarding is that they should master the basic techniques first.

Doing this can be abundant according to many skateboarders; however, it will build a good foundation for beginners to start their career in this sport. Lastly, don’t be off-putting if you are not able to perform the trick after a few minutes or hours.
